The Psalm of Stewardship
O Lord, Our Lord, how majestic is You name in all the earth …When I consider your heavens the work of Your fingers, the moon and stars which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him? Psalm 8:1,3-4
In unparalleled style, Psalm 8 declares the glory of God and the stewardship of all creation that He has entrusted to us. Continuing on, the psalmist ponders, You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of Your hands; You put everything under his feet (Psalm 8:5). Such an understanding of ourselves pushes back against the feelings of insignificance or unimportance that can plague us in life. God has ordained and ordered creation and calls us to manage all that He has given to us with an awareness of our role as His steward. To Him be the glory for all that we are and in all that we have!
